Known for his nitty-gritty details of how our bodies function, U.S. health influencer on Youtube Thomas DeLauer has recently tackled a whole new subject for the first time: “The science of CBD oil.”

CBD is the non-psychoactive component in cannabis, and it is known for its valuable health benefits.

The California-based DeLauer talking about a cannabis component and how our bodies have the naturally occurring endocannabinoid receptors is yet another sign of how the green herb is gaining popularity at least among the health-conscious.

DeLauer, who has more than half million followers on Youtube, told his viewers “everywhere you turn, there is someone talking about CBD right now.”

“The hard part is when you are looking at CBD effects on the body, there is only so much that can be talked about it. There is a lot of censorship.”

There are 29 U.S. states where medical marijuana is legal and nine others that permit the recreational use of cannabis. However, marijuana remains prohibited on a federal level in the United States.

Our endocannabinoid receptors

DeLauer, who at times appear with his wife to explain a myriad of topics including the ever-so-popular intermittent fasting, said he is breaking down the science of CBD oil because “there is a lot of misinformation.”

In the video, DeLauer explains how our endocannabinoid receptors have two kinds: CBD 1, found in our brains, and CBD 2, dispersed throughout our body.

He even went on to dispel a myth that that CBD oil only affects CBD 2 receptors. “That’s not true,” he said, adding that unlike the psychoactive component of cannabis THC, cannabis oil does not “directly” affect these two receptors but it aids and supports the function of the body’s endocannabinoid receptors.

These endocannabinoids receptors are not only important regulators that control a variety of human functions, but they are key for our bodies’ ability to achieve homeostasis. The latter term could be explained as the body’s attempt to maintain a constant and balanced internal environment.

Humans can also add on its endocannabinoids by eating nutritious food.

“Whether our body is using them that’s another whole story,” he said while continuing to further explain its “physiological effects”

“Even though you have the natural utilization of these endocannabinoids, it doesn’t mean end-all be-all,” he said.

“It is the byproduct of this. It is the utilization in the activation of vanilloid receptors, of adenosine receptors, and serotonin receptors that ultimately give us the sensation and the end-result that we are seeking with CBD oil.”

DeLauer, who made his journey into health after shedding 100 pounds, went on to explain these various receptors in details, and how CBD oil could enhance their functions.

Some reactions to his video.

The current trend towards the legalization of marijuana especially for its health benefits is spreading. DeLauer’s video, which has more than 37 thousand views as of Monday so far, is another proof.
